This project is freely available to the public, and researchers are invited to use the data in the archive and the map as well as the textual information on the Website. The following guidelines apply to the use of this material.

Copyright

The textual materials that provided material for the Archive and for the Map sections of the project were, whenever possible, original archival sources from public repositories or printed materials in the public domain. Consult About the Sources for additional information on project contents. The textual material in the History and About sections, all design elements of the Website, and all coding for the map are the intellectual property of the project author © 2024 Peter Kastor.  You can find a full list of contributors on About the Project.

Conditions of Use

This Website is Open Access, which means the contents of this website are made freely available for individual private study, scholarship and research, and educational purposes. Researchers are encouraged to use the material on federal employees, the analytical text on the Website, and the geospatial information on the map for scholarly research, academic assignments, family history and genealogy, general interest, or any other research purpose.
